My Process Thus Far

G'day folks, with a new update comes a new Devlog!  This one is going to be mainly focused on my process on how I develop The Game of Fourtune.  Now I can't say it's the most efficient, or the fastest, or the best but it's what I've been doing for awhile now.

Writing:  Usually I start with just... writing out the script itself in a google document.  It's easier to spot typos and other grammatical errors on there than in just writing it into the editor.  Usually I write out an entire route before plugging everything into Ren'Py but I format it in a way that makes importing it rather simple for me.  Just giving each character a line or tag, occasionally putting in a marker for where music/sound/screen shakes and other details will go into the script as well.  Pretty basic stuff.

Scripting:  After a route's text has been put into the game, I usually work on the logic.  This is mostly just making sure that choices, menus, jumps, and labels are properly put into the game so that the flow of control moves as intended.  After the logic is implemented I usually run through the game to make sure it's working properly.  Once that's done I start scripting in the other portions, the sprites, music, sound effects, transitions, and all that good stuff.

The pros of doing it this way is that I get a lot of chances to re-read through the script and adjust some wording if I think it's strange or out of place or just fixing typos that arise.  The cons are that it's rather tedious to go in time and time again to add in small details here and there.

Play Testing:  Finally once all the scripting is done, I play test the game myself.  This is basically me just playing through the game, reading through options, making sure that all the sprites, sound effects, music, and all that are in the right place.  I also make adjustments depending on how the game plays.  Again, just moving sprite positions, or adjusting what sound effects to use, simple things like that.

Once I'm content with play testing I make the build, send it off, and pray that you're all enjoying what I've made thus far.  Hopefully you're all having a good time, so let's keep things rolling!
